Player Biography
David Wheater is an experienced centre back currently playing for Bolton Wanderers in the Championship.
David started his career with Middlesbrough, coming through the academy and playing for the senior team between 2004 and 2011. His breakthrough season came in 2007 under manager Gareth Southgate where he was a key member of the defence and a vocal presence in the backline.
The 2009/10 season saw David handed the captain’s armband for Middlesbrough, despite being only 22 at the time, an early sign of his talents as a natural leader, a role he has continued at Bolton Wanderers as their current captain.
David was instrumental in Bolton’s League One promotion campaign in 2016/17 and cemented his position as a fan favourite, earning a place in the League One PFA Team of the Year for his performances. He continues to act as a level head and experienced captain from the heart of defence.
